Liv Lopes

Liv was born to move. Dance, gymnastics, basketball, soccer, trampoline, swimming, running, junior life-guarding competitions. She loved these as a child and her love of movement led her to yoga. At 15, Liv went to a gentle yoga class at a gym and was curious to find that she kept returning on her own. No coach, no team, no friends, no parental push—she showed up. Since then, Liv’s yoga practice has continually been the space where she develops accountability to and belonging in her body-mind-spirit. Whether through a year of Bikram practice to help heal her neurological paralysis, a 10-month trauma-informed mind-body program for survivors like herself, 500 hours of Hatha teacher training programs, over a dozen workshops and silent retreats on subjects ranging from zen and vipassana meditation to yoga for 12-step recovery, Liv relies on her yoga and meditation practices to bring her into communion with her inner teacher. This is what she loves to share in her classes: offerings from her body of practice that may help students come home to the never-failing partner and guide within themselves. She will never be your best teacher, you will be! Liv spent her first four years as a teacher practicing yoga and meditation with men, women, and youth in a Jail and Juvenile Hall and training other yoga teachers to teach in the system as well. She moved to Portland at the start of 2020 and has been enjoying teaching yoga to a group of women at a local women’s gym, meditation to a group of employees at a local company, and now, online yoga with the Harmony Yoga community.
